Family Fun

VALENTINE CRAFTS

It had been awhile since we had any "Family Fun", so Katie called us together to make some Valentines...
You're the BOMB!!  Or, as Greg adapted his to say... Jesus thinks you're the BOMB!!  Valentine's for his High School Sunday School class (the dynamite is full of candy so no worries ; )
We started the evening off with some yummy Taco Soup.  Then the creating began.  Axel and his Grandma were busy making Valentines for his class - cute owls perched on a pencil "Owl always be your friend" So cute!!

I think one of my favorite childhood memories was decorating shoe boxes for Valentine's Day.  So much fun!! Something tells me Easter Eggs might be next...

GINGER BREAD HOUSES

To celebrate Laura's Birthday, we brought back an event we enjoyed many times when the she was younger...  Gingerbread House Construction!!  What FUN!!  Why we ever stopped I will never know, and thanks to Chad, the event has returned and will surely be an annual celebration!!  I did cheat this year by purchasing kits at IKEA...  (next year it will be all homemade gingerbread).  Everyone brought bags of candy, I mixed up the icing, and the decorating began.  I watched, with camera in hand, while Laura, Chad, Scott, Marisa, Katie, Greg and Axel were busy decorating.  Sue was there too and THANKFULLY put lights on my tree!!!  Thank you SUE!!

So much fun to see the excitement and creativity around the table.  Axel had a great time, but I do believe he was most excited to give Laura the birthday present he picked out all by himself...  a small pink sparkly purse!!!  WOW!!!  I was thrilled to have my tree fully decorated by evenings end!!  Thanks to Axel many ornaments were hung nice and low for Summer - she says Thank you!!

Anyway, the debate has begun as to what our next creative family event will be...  stay tuned...

PUMPKIN CARVING

I have always thought that we "Smith's" have known how to have fun...  I was blessed to have a Mother who was in a state of constant JOY!!!  She loved the Lord and loved to serve.  In serving, she blessed many with her joyful spirit.  She loved her family, and revelled in the accomplishments of her grandchildren (her ultimate pride and joy).  There isn't a family member who doesn't miss both she and my Dad, but we are all so thankful to have had them in our lives and to continue living every moment to the fullest... even when it's messy...
I wanted to share a few images of some Fun Family time spent this Fall...  it all started with Pumpkins... =)

We definitely need to make this event BIGGER next year - get ready Karl & Katherine - we need more carvers!!

Check out our finished pumpkins - we really had a great time AND managed to keep the "mess" manageable =)
